Back Pain Relief Tips
Back pain relief is quite a big part of my life – being that I suffer with lower back pain quite a lot. The doctor seems to think that my cause of back pain is related to some weak discs in my lower back – I’m not completely convinced but that’s another story. Regardless of that I thought I’d share some of the back pain relief tips that work for me.
I’m actually writing this sat in my tent listening to the rain pounding down on the canvas. It’s a lovely sound, very therapeutic, and quite relaxing, but not really the best weather for camping. Anyway, I digress… back to my back pain relief tips.
We have quite a large trailer tent, which takes about 2 hours to fully construct and kit out. A lot of that 2 hours is spent bent over laying ground sheets, erecting poles, hammering pegs into the ground to hold the canvas in place and the like – a chore that never fails to inflict some rather intense lower back pain.
Needless to say that once the tent is built and ready for living, I generally need to rest my back for a while. And that’s where the beauty of trailer tents comes to the rescue – they may be the cause of lower back pain (at least for me) but they also provide the cure. The beds are fold out units with a solid wood base and a 3 inch dense foam mattress – so are very firm.
After just the first night sleeping on this very firm bed, my back was pretty much recovered – I’ve now slept three nights on the bed, and that lower back pain from building the tent has completely gone. Better still, my back hasn’t felt this strong for a long time – probably since the last time I went camping.
So a firm bed is a definite “must have” for lower back pain relief, especially if you’re diagnosed with weak discs or muscles in the lower back area.
Another activity I do more of when camping is walking. Walking is another great source of back pain relief, as it helps to gently exercise all the muscles around your lower back especially your glutes (buttocks) and hip flexors, which all help to keep you back aligned correctly.
I also get a lot more sleep than when I’m at home and back in my normal routine. Getting plenty of sleep is not just good for back pain relief, it affects (and improves) your overall health and well being too.
So, my top back pain relief tips (whether you’re a camper or not) are:
- Get a firm bed that fully supports your lower back
- Get plenty of regular exercise like walking
- Get plenty of sleep
Back pain relief is not rocket science – it’s just about using some effective techniques that work.
